ABOUT iED CHAPTERS

Excerpt from section "VII.  CHAPTERS" of Immersive Education Charter http://ImmersiveEducation.org/Charter.pdf

VII. CHAPTERS CHAPTERS
Immersive Education Chapters constitute the geographically distributed
structure of Immersive Education through which regional and local
members are supported and enriched.

Chapters organize officially sanctioned Summits, workshops,
collaborations, seminars, lectures, forums, meetings, technical
groups, technical work items, research, and related activities.

Every Immersive Education Chapter is organized and run by a Board of
Governors (BoG) that liaise directly with the international Immersive
Education Initiative, other Chapters, and related governing bodies to
support the growth of Immersive Education around the world.

Membership for every Immersive Education Chapter is free and open to
the entire regional or local community that the Chapters are founded
to service.

iED Sneak Peek

LIVE WONDERLAND VIRTUAL WORLD BUILDING "SNEAK-PEEKS"

1) Thursday December 15th from 07:00-9:00 PM USA Eastern Time

2) Sunday December 18th from 05:30-7:30 PM USA Eastern Time
Convert to your own time zone

OVERVIEW AND MEETING LOCATION:

Get an exclusive look at two new Immersive Education virtual worlds as they are being designed and built. Join iED Director Aaron E. Walsh, his Boston College students, and Nicole Yankelovich from the Open Wonderland Foundation and WonderBuilders for the very first "live builds" of the following Immersive Education virtual worlds:

1) Interactive 3D gallery exhibit for the preliminary results of the Call For Psychologically Beneficial Immersive Environments made by the  Psychology of Immersive Environments Technology Working Group (PIE.TWG)

2) Rocket World Earth, Moon, Mars, Stars (EMMS) [see Rocket World]

These live builds will show iED members how simple it is to construct Wonderland virtual worlds using pre-made 3D content from the Google 3D Warehouse. Join us to watch, and even participate, as we build two new virtual worlds from scratch (we'll start with blank/empty worlds, and build them live, on the spot).  For both world building projects we'll demonstrate the following features and capabilities of Wonderland and world-building in general:

+ Subsnapshots, Snapshops, Posters, Images, Google 3D Warehouse objects

+ Cross-team iterative and live design

MEETING LOCATION: As a member of the Immersive Education Initiative you are invited to attend both days; see dates and times above. Simply enter the public iED Audio Whiteboard [click here and sign in] at any time during the meetings (iED account required), and from there we will enter the virtual world. If you do not already have an iED account see see "How can I participate?" on the right-hand side of this page, or "Join" at the top of this page.

iED SUMMIT MADRID

1st European Immersive Education Summit
28th and 29th November 2011
Leganes (Madrid, Spain)

This is the first summit organised by the newly formed European Chapter of the Immersive Education Initiative (http://europe.immersiveeducation.org), and builds on the success of previous iED summits held in Boston and London (http://mediagrid.org/summit/). Universidad Carlos III de Madrid will host the two-day iED Summit from 28th to 29th November 2011.
This summit will address core topics on the use of virtual and mixed-reality environments for online education and training applications. The scope will be fairly broad and will look at a range of innovative uses of virtual reality immersive environments. This could range from using and developing virtual environments through to practitioners with experience of teaching online and developing new approaches and pedagogies, including underpinning theories, human factors, pedagogy and design/evaluation strategies, case studies and more technical/scientific research topics. Submissions that have empirical results derived from virtual or mixed-reality immersive education test-beds are also encouraged.

Details, deadlines and submission instructions are available through the official iED Summit website.
